Lots of animals have great caring parents, and the kids have little to worry about thanks to the protection of their mothers.
This is where pelicans are different. Siblings will often kick each other out of the nest so that the bossy ones can have all the food. The ones who get shoved out are pretty much doomed to a quick death on the ground, since of course they're just babies. Even the mothers will no longer acknowledge them.
That's the situation of this little pelican here. It looks like she can walk thanks to her stature, but we never know where the lack of a mother might take her.also since the original drawing was huge and I had to size it down a lot to make it comprehensible here's what the pelican looks like up close if you're curious.
